Huck Weaving Patterns Easy To Do Borders for Towels Placemats Curtains and Apparel

Huck Weaving

Huck weaving, also known as Swedish weaving is a popular form of needlework. Designs can be done on the wrong or right side of the fabric. The Huck toweling material used comes in many different colors and widths.

My JoAnn’s Fabric store or their online store has Huck Toweling fabric by the yard but only in white with a 15 inch width. They also carry Monk’s Cloth which is another fabric used in huck weaving. Again in white, but with a 60 inch width.

Border Patterns

These pretty huck weaving border patterns come from an Aunt Martha’s booklet. The booklet also provides some instructions and an illustration of stitches.

Instructions

The kind of thread you use will depend on the item you’re making. A pearl cotton or crochet thread is normally used. To make the stitches, a large eyed blunt-pointed tapestry needle will be needed.

How cute! Question- where does one find “Huck” toweling? honestly, I wouldn’t know what it looks like if I did see it, is it known by any other name? is there a certain brand or make of towel sold just about anywhere that we can use for this? Thanks Debra- hope all is well with you and thank you so much for your vintage patterns 🙂

Doing well. JoAnn Fabric stores and online stores carry huck toweling. It’s an even weave fabric. You have to have an even weave to do the embroidery. Monk’s cloth is also another fabric you can use. Sometimes Amazon has the fabric but it’s hit or miss. Hope that helps. Debra

Thanx Debra- I actually did manage to find Huck toweling on a needlework site! I didn’t know it existed but I have heard of it. Monk’s cloth I have tons of it, and there are patterns online for “Swedish Weaving” that I just discovered. I found a very large supply of Monk’s cloth in large bags last year that I now know what I can make with them all!

Thank you I enjoy your site very much.

Darn, I’m sorry to hear that. You’ll probably have to do a internet search for “buck fabric” and see what comes up. And check EBay and Etsy. It does seem to be hard to find.

Sometimes just using an even weave fabric like Aida will work.

          Thanks!
          Debra
