Antique Tatted Flower Pattern ~ Today we are revisiting a popular post on Tatting Instructions.  Click on the link to read the post that includes a background history, instructions and abbreviations used in tatting plus a couple small patterns to get you started.

The pattern today is a little more intricate, but very pretty and worth the time. It would be a wonderful embellishment for a dress or any other item you’d like to add it to.

This pretty flower comes from a booklet called Tatting by Mary E. Fitch, Series No. 6 published in 1916. The name of the pattern is:  Spray for Applique on Collars, Cuffs, Bags, etc.

DMC Cordonnet Cotton Thread

The patterns use DMC Cordonnet Cotton Thread which is a tightly twisted six-cord crochet cotton used for tatting, openwork, lacework, hardanger and drawn thread work and is still available today. I’ve only seen it in white and ecru.

Of course you can substitute it with a thread you may be familiar with that is used for tatting.
