Hardanger Embroidery

I’ve been wanting to do another post on Hardanger Embroidery for a while but hadn’t found anything I wanted to share until now.

Then I came across this vintage (antique) DMC Library booklet at the Antique Pattern Library’s website. It not only has beautiful patterns but some good how-to’s on the different stitches used for Hardanger Embroidery.

Instructions for Stitches

The PDF file below has the all the pages of instructions, but here are the first two pages.

I like this page because it talks about the type of material and threads that are used in this kind of embroidery.

The next page goes on to explain the stitches used to make a design.

The general instructions noted in the 2nd paragraph above can be found in the first DMC booklet.

I just love the look of the weaving stitch used in this corner pattern. The first photo above is also patterns from the booklet.

Hardanger Embroideries II Series

The pattern is in PDF format so to read it you’ll need the Adobe Reader software on your computer. Most computers come with it, but it is free and can be found here.

Download Instructions: Right-Click the link and select either “save target as” or “save link as” depending on what browser you are using or simply click on it and save or print.
