Ties for Men and Boys Hand Crocheted Patterns

Ties for Men and Boys

The patterns for today’s freebie are from a 1952 crochet pattern booklet that is exclusively Ties for Men and Boys. Sometimes you’ll find one or two tie patterns in a crochet booklet but this one is all ties.

DMC Pearl Cotton

The thread used to crochet these ties in 1952 is still available today. I found some DMC Pearl Cotton Size 8 skeins, but not too many.

An alternative that has a 5 star rating on Amazon, is this LE PAON Soft 10g Cotton Balls Size 8 in a pack of 16 Rainbow Colors. Find them –>> HERE

Patterned Ties

The three ties pictured below are the ones I’ve chosen for today’s free patterns. Each tie instruction includes suggested colors to coordinate the designs.

As an example, this is the instructions for tie No. 7131:

You’ll also notice at the end of the instructions to finish the tie you’ll need to have the pattern for tie No. 7119. I’ve included that in the PDF file. Also, you can find that tie pattern in an earlier post I did back in 2012. That post included a tie knitting pattern as well.

Abbreviations and Terms

I like to include the abbreviations and terms illustrated in the booklet. Although most crochet terms are universal, you may find that certain companies use there own abbreviations so having them here is helpful.

Men’s Tie History

Recently I shared a post on the VTNS (Vintage Textile and Needlework Sellers) Facebook page about the history of men’s ties. It’s on a blog titled VintageDancer. They share posts on vintage style clothing and where you can find them online.

This is a history from 1910 – 1970 so these 1950’s ties will fit right in. There are many vintage ads included. I think you’ll enjoy it.

When I use the printer friendly link at the bottom of the page, the instructions for tie no.7119 doesn’t print with this pattern. Is there any way for you to add it or send it to me. Thank you.

Yes the printer friendly button only prints what’s shown on the blog post. Try the link within the page under the PDF File Download paragraph. There are 3 pages. 7119 is on the bottom of the second page. If that doesn’t work let me know.
