Baby Sunsuit
First of all, what’s more 1950’s than a knitted baby sunsuit? You can see when doing a quick internet search of “1950s baby sunsuits” they’re coming back. There is no shortage of sewing patterns available as-well-as ready made ones.
This Zelta Brand Yarns pattern is in sizes 6 months and 1 year. The directions are given to knit a 6 month size and a 1-year-old size is in parentheses.
You’ll be using a Stockinette stitch which is K (Knit) 1 row, P (Purl) 1 row for the body of the sunsuit. The Ribbing is K 2, P 2 and a Garter Stitch: Knit each row. The Gauge is 7 sts=1 inch; 10 rows=1 inch
You’ll need baby yarn in one main color and a contrasting color for a design shown in the chart below. Also Size Nos. 2 and 3 knitting needles plus 2 buttons.
Zelta Brand Yarns
The yarn choices are Zelta Zephyr Baby, Pompadour or Nylon. I couldn’t find anything about Zelta Brand Yarns so for that reason I looked up and found several substitutes for this yarn.
One is Bernat Softee Baby yarn that come in a pack of 3 skeins 362 yards each. It’s sold in lots of different colors.
The other is Lion Brand Baby Soft yarn.
These come in different skein length depending on the color you order and there are some wonderful choices for color with this yarn.
Chart for Cross Stitch Decoration
This cute baby sunsuit comes with instructions for cross stitching a decorative edge around the bib.
Pattern Instructions
You’ll notice the pattern states this is a Bikini Playsuit. Seems like it’s not a bikini and most people call it a sunsuit or romper. I guess you could interchange playsuit with sunsuit or romper.
