Rambler Rose Hot Plate Mats Free Vintage Crochet Pattern

Rambler Rose Hot Plate Mats FW Woolworth Co Crochet Instructions

Rambler Rose

You can’t beat the pretty crocheted roses in these oval hot plate mats. Add the pinwheel effect circling around the roses to keep the hot dish away from the table, and you have a beautiful crocheted doily.

American Thread Co

This leaflet is from an F. W. Woolworth Co store. Anyone remember those? I do. They must’ve sold the American Thread crochet cotton required for these hot plates and gave away this free leaflet for use with those threads.

American Thread Puritan Bedspread Cotton

One of the materials is “Puritan” Crochet Cotton, Article 40. It’s a mercerized crochet bedspread weight cotton.

It looks like the roses and pinwheels are done in a shaded thread, yellow, then the edges are green and white. Wish the photos were in color.

A substitute for the American Thread “Puritan” crochet cotton:

Hot Plate Mats

Each of mats are an oval shape. The small mat is 7 x 12 inches and the large one is 10 x 15½ inches.

You’ll find the complete instructions for both mats in a PDF file below.

Pinwheel Doily

A couple weeks ago on the VTNS Facebook page I shared a free crochet pattern from the BellaCrochet blogspot for a Pinwheel Doily. It’s similar to the vintage one in this blog post minus the roses.

She also uses a Size 10 Bedspread weight crochet cotton for this pattern . You can’t go wrong with the variegated threads out there. Especially with this design. It accentuates the twirls.
