Since Father’s Day will be here soon I came across a couple crochet patterns for suspenders. Most of the crochet patterns I found on a internet search were for babies, some really cute. But these are vintage patterns from the 1892 and 1907.
Crocheted Suspenders No. 1
The first one is from A treatise On Embroidery; with twenty color illustrations from original models by M. Heminway & Sons Silk Co. You’ll not only find this pattern towards the end of the book, but also some lovely embroidery illustrations of flowers.

Crocheted Suspenders No. 2
The next one is from The Last and Best Book on Art Needlework by The Brainerd & Armstrong Co. from 1892. Click on the PDF to bring up the full book.

Similar Patterns
Both of the directions are similar. A pretty small shell pattern. Both use crochet silk. The first one doesn’t list a crochet hook size, but the second one uses a size No. 2 crochet hook.
Make a Belt
I believe this pattern would make a lovely belt as well as suspenders.
Another Crochet Pattern for Suspenders
I found another crochet pattern for a pair of suspenders that look like lace. This crochet pattern is from the public domain book,
A Treatise on Lace-Making, Embroidery, and Needlework with Barbour’s Irish flax Threads copyright 1892. This book is worth a look. I took a quick look and there are some incredible patterns in it.
These are embellish with cross stitch stitches.
How to Crochet Suspenders
One more thing. I found a short, 2 minute YouTube Video for crocheting suspenders. It’s for suspenders made with yarn, most likely for kids, but there are a couple pointers in the video that may help with making your suspenders.
So there you have it. Crocheted suspenders to make for Father’s Day. If anyone makes a pair, email me with a photo and I’ll display it in the comments and on Facebook.
