Christmas Wreath Crochet Banding ~ Summer has flown by and it’s almost time for school to begin and planning for Christmas projects.
To get you started, I’ve chosen a crochet banding pattern that looks like a Christmas wreath, but is a pretty edging for any time.
Crochet Banding
Banding is a little different than a crocheted edging. A banding is an insertion where both the top and bottom are sewn in. A crocheted band can also be used alone as a head band.
A crocheted edging is used to finish the raw edge of your item. Like a collar, cuff or border for a towel or afghan.
A banding, just like an edging, can be used on toweling, napkins, tablecloths, a garment or any other item you’d like to embellish with crocheting.
This crochet banding pattern uses size 50 Crochet Cotton and a size 14 crochet hook.
Size Changes in Crochet
The chart below gives you an idea of the how the overall size changes when you use a different size crochet cotton. These show Size 70, 50 and 30. The higher the cotton thread number the smaller the stitches.
Higher number = Smaller Stitch
Lower number = Bigger Stitch
Here’s a helpful chart showing the different size crochet hooks:
Next are the crochet stitches and abbreviations used in the instructions.
Most of the crochet stitches used are common with the exception of the Picot(p). To make a Picot — Ch 4; into fourth stitch from hook make a simple crochet stitch; this forms a picot.
