Welcome to VTNS (Vintage Textile and Needlework Sellers) Fan Freebie Friday!
I found these great retro crochet rope craft patterns for place mats and hot plates from the 1950s. The booklet is a Lily Design Book called A New Look in Crochet, Fair and Bazaar Winners from 1954. These are sure to be a winner to decorate your own kitchen or to give as gifts.
True fifties colors are used, green, yellow, blue and pink. The patterns call for Lily Double-Quick Art 50 or Lily Skytone or Frostone Crochet Cotton, all of these threads are discontinued.
Take a look at this previous crochet pattern post from another Lily’s vintage booklet. It explains what Lily’s Skytone Mercerized Crochet Cotton is and has a helpful chart describing the correct size crochet hooks to use for different sizes of thread. This will help you find a good substitute thread.
You’ll love the crochet pattern in this post too, Lace Valentine. It’s one of the most downloaded on the blog.
The crochet instructions for the Place Mat are below. The PDF file download includes instructions for the Beverage Set and Hot Plate Mat Set as well.
Here is the PDF file for download:

Hi. I am looking for filet crochet pattern on an “Angel/man blowing a horn/trumpet/saxophone ; and some lilly white cotton crochet thread” to buy. Do you have these items available? If, not, could you please email addresses to where I could possibly order them? God bless you for your kindness. Thanks.
Hi, I don’t currently have any lily white cotton crochet thread. The best way to find vintage crochet thread would be to do a search on ebay.com or etsy.com. I found quite a few for sale when I did the search. I know I’ve seen something similar to what your looking for in a pattern, just can’t remember where at the moment. If I come across it, I’ll let you know. For now, a good place to look would be the Antique Pattern Library under the heading filet crochet. I found this booklet that had a couple patterns that might work. Hope this helps.
