The place mat measures 13 x 18 inches when finished and is done using Crochet Cotton and a No. 12 Crochet Hook.

The crochet instructions include following a chart similar to Filet Crochet, which is a pattern made up of open and solid meshes. You can find out more about Filet Crochet in this post, Exploring Filet Crochet.

Filet Chart

The chart looks like this ~

Besides the normal abbreviations for crochet, Ch, sc, dc, etc. you’ll need to know hdc = half double crochet, sk = skip and blk = block. In Row 2 of the instructions it explains how a block is formed for this project.

Once you’ve finished the body of the place mat, there are instructions for the Edge, the Acorn and it’s Cap. The acorns are separate and sewn on.

You can print the instruction page and chart shown in the post by clicking on them. It will open in another window and you can save or print them from there. Also there’s a green PRINT button at the bottom of the post you can use.
