Snowflakes
Snow Crystals Quilt Pattern ~ Even though this pattern is a little hard to read, I couldn’t resist sharing it.
Before I get to the pattern, the image below is from a fascinating 1863 book of snowflake illustrations. I found it on the Public Domain Review site, but it is also available on Archive.org.
The book is filled with illustrations of snowflakes you could use for all kinds of needlework. My first thought was embroidery, but there is so much more you could do with them.
Mountain Mist
This quilt pattern is from a Mountain Mist wrapper. The company has been around for almost 200 years. They are best known for their quilt batting which is still available today.
In 1929 Mountain Mist began printing patterns on the paper wrapping the batting came in. The patterns featured full instructions, color suggestions, how to make the quilt and sometimes quilting designs.
Find out more history on the company in this article, The Story Behind Mountain Mist Historical Quilts, on The Quilting Company’s website.
Also, there’s a book about these quilts, Mountain Mist Historical Quilts: 14 Mid-Century Quilts Made New by Linda Pumphrey. You can find it on Amazon.
Snow Crystals
Like I said above, the directions in the PDF file are a bit hard to read, but the pattern itself is clear. It doesn’t include the seam allowance, so you’ll need to add it.
Colors for the quilt are blue and white. As shown in the Yardage Chart below.
Here’s an image of a finished snow crystals quilt. It also uses blue and white fabric.
Diagram of the Quilt
The finished dimensions are shown in this diagram. The pattern along with the instructions and diagram are in the PDF file below.
