Poncho Pattern
We are getting close to summer, but the nights are still cool so I chose a poncho knitting pattern for today’s freebie. It’s for beginners and as a matter of fact the instructions are from a vintage booklet titled Begin to Knit.
It’s an American Thread Co. Star Book No. 167. I’ve done a post for a knitted wrap or stole pattern from this same booklet. You can find it >>HERE<<.
The sizes are Small and Medium. The gauge is 4 sts=1 inch for size 10 needles. The pattern uses American Thread Company’s “Dawn” Knitting Worsted. That yarn is a 4 ply 100% Wool. The skeins came in 3½ to 4 ounces with 252 yards each.
You’ll find more information on this and other discontinued yarns on this page of the blog.
Download Instructions: Right-Click on the image. Select either “save link as” or “save image as” depending on what browser you are using. Or simply click on it, it will open in a new window and save it from there.
Knitting Abbreviations
These abbreviations are included in the booklet and may help with the instructions above:
Summer Poncho
In addition to this vintage pattern, I found a pretty summer pattern called Lavender Wash. It’s a DROPS Spring/Summer 2018 designs from Garnstudio.
It has all sizes and is perfect for a summer night.
Free Cape & Poncho Knitting Patterns
On the LoveKnitting website you’ll find a whole page of free cape and poncho knitting patterns. Some light, some heavy. Not only are there many for women but also a few for men and children’s poncho’s too. You are bound to find something you’d like to try.
If you like this post, be sure to share it with your friends and like our Facebook Page so you can get updates every time we post new patterns.
Enjoy!
Love this vintage pattern. I am not a s/m size. Have you adjusted this pattern and made a large?
Yes it’s a great pattern. I haven’t adjusted the pattern. I see it’s small and medium. I’d search the internet for “how to enlarge a knitting pattern”. Several good options came up including this one from Spruce Crafts. If you learn visually, YouTube has several too.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for stopping by my blog.
