Valentine’s Day Heart Crochet Pattern
Valentine’s Day is headed our way again. There is always an abundance of heart vintage crafts. It’s hard to choose just one.
This year’s is a Have a Heart pincushion or sachet crochet pattern.
You’ll find this Have a Heart! crochet pattern in the 1943 Royal Society booklet titled, Hand Crochet.
Royal Society Perlé Cotton
The heart is made using Royal Perlé Cotton Size 8. You’ll need a Dark color for the heart (maybe red) and a Light color for the ruffled edge.
A steel crochet hook No. 6 or a size that will match the Gauge of 11 sts make 1 inch; 12 rows make 1 inch. Cotton batting is necessary for the pincushion.
If you’d like it to be a sachet, fill it with your favorite potpourri. If you use it as a sachet, I’d skip the “Ouch” embroidered on it. 🙂
The Thread Is Discontinued, What Is A Good Substitute
I found several options of Pearl Cotton Size 8.
To start is the DMC version. This listing on Amazon has a long, long list of colors. Most you can’t find in the craft stores in town. At least that is what many of the reviewers say. Some colors are shipped Prime and others are not. So keep a look out for that if you choose this thread.
ThreadArt has 40 colors to choose from. Their Pearl Cotton thread comes in 75 yard spools. No Prime shipping, but not bad for the price. Reviews are good — 4 ½ stars.
And last but not least, if you can’t choose a color, this Set from ThreadArt includes 20 colors — each with 75 yards. It’s under $30, but add $5.24 for shipping.

Other Posts With Heart
An edging for a heart or any other shape you might have in mind. The pincushion is made with fabric in the center, unlike this one that has a crocheted center.
How about a heart shaped pot holder.
Well that should do it for hearts for now. Until next year.
