Irish Rose Ruffle Doily
The home decor in America in the 1940’s was Hollywood glamour, floral fabrics and ruffles. Today’s free vintage pattern is from a 1948 Star Book titled Ruffle Doilies and the Pansy Doily. It does not disappoint.
Just take a look at this color guide from the 1940’s.
There were jewel toned colors, linoleum, floral slipcovers, ruffled and scalloped edges, chintz draperies, blond wood furniture and large scale floral wallpapers to name a few.
You can just picture this Irish Rose Doily on a table top showing off all the treasured bric-a-brac of that era.
Doily Pattern Instructions
Size 50 Mercerized Crochet Cotton is very thin. With crochet cotton the higher the number the thinner the thread. Yarn is just the opposite. The higher the number the thicker it is.
Herrschners has a DMC® Cordonnet Special (Size 50) Crochet Thread in white or ecru. The thread has a beautiful glossy finish and each Size 50 ball contains 284 yards of crochet thread.

This set of Crochet Abbreviations were in the booklet.
What ruffled doily would be complete without starching. Along with the abbreviations the booklet shared Directions for Starching Doilies.
