Crocheted Casserole Holders
With Thanksgiving near, I thought I’d share two quick crochet patterns to keep your casserole dishes warm on the table.
These casserole cozies would be a fine gift or great bazaar item too. They don’t include handles, but could still be used for a take along homemade dish at a pot luck supper.
The patterns come from a J & P Coats & Clark’s Quick Crochet booklet published in 1953. Speed-Cro-Sheen crochet thread is used for the items and a Size O crochet hook.
J&P Coat’s Speed-Cro-Sheen Thread
Speed-Cro-Sheen is a Size 3, 100% mercerized cotton crochet thread. It came in 100 yard lengths and was machine washable.
Since it is discontinued a good substitute would be Aunt Lydia’s Bulk Buy Fashion Crochet Cotton Crochet Thread Size 3 (3-Pack) These are a bulk buy and come in a 3-pack for total of 450 yards. This thread comes in several nice colors and the reviews are 4.5 stars.
Another good substitute is DMC Petra Crochet Cotton Thread, Size 3. Most of them come in 306 yard lengths.
Round and Oblong Patterns
The pattern starts with the bottom of the cover, the sides and then an edging. Colors would be your choice, to match your kitchen decor or the holiday table.
