Crochet Snowflake Ornament Patterns
Even though these patterns are for curtain pulls, I think they would make pretty crochet snowflake ornaments. As you’ll see from the photos below.
See what I mean. The one on the top right is my favorite.
These designs are from a 1943 Royal Society booklet titled Hand Crochet Book No. 1.
The front cover page asks, “Do you collect lovely crochet designs as some people do fine china?” I’d have to answer yes to that question.
Royal Society Crochet Cotton
Listed below is what you’ll need to make these curtain pulls or what I like to call crochet snowflake ornaments.
Here’s an advertisement for the Royal Society crochet cotton.
The crochet thread size is 20 and the hook size is No. 8 or 9. You can still find some Royal Society threads for sale on the internet.
Aunt Lydia’s Fine 20 crochet thread is always a good substitute or DMC Cebelia Crochet Cotton will do as well.
Dritz has a 24-pack package of 3/4 inch white plastic rings. The links will take you to their page on Amazon.

I love working the older patterns. Thank you so very much for these! I’ve been looking for patterns to make snowflakes and can’t wait to try these out!!!! I usually use doubled strands of #10 crochet thread with a #1.75 steel hook; soak them generously in starch (with a little glitter added), then gently squeeze them out and lay them out on wax paper to dry.
Thanks for the tips and comment. 😀
The crochet patterns specifically for snowflakes would not have the thick, over crocheted centers like these, where you sc 10 or 20x into the circle, that’s the only thing.
Also these are nice for the fan/light pull chains for ceiling fans too.
Yes, agree the middle may need to be modified a bit. But like you said good for fan/light pull chains too.
Ohhh! So pretty and I actually remember my mom and gran teaching me to make them! We had shades on all the windows
Yes they really are some pretty ones. I was thinking we could also use them as fan pulls these days. I have a fan in almost every room. I bought decorative glass ones, but I might try a couple of these. Thanks for your comment! Debra
