The Butterfly Stole
Butterfly Shawl — The shawl by itself, without the butterflies would be fine, but this pattern has instructions for crocheting pretty sequined butterflies. You sew them onto the shawl or stole for a whimsical look.
Materials Required
You can use regular crochet cotton or a cotton that has metallic strands of silver and gold in it. This new cotton thread in the 1950’s by American Thread Company was Puritan Star Spangled Crochet Cotton.
The thread does not state a size, but I believe it was probably Size 10. The gauge for the shawl is 6 sc = 1 inch. No longer available, a good substitute would be Aunt Lydia’s white/silver or natural/gold Metallic Crochet Cotton.
The original pattern suggests a turquoise or aqua color for the shawl. Very pretty, very 1950’s. The butterflies have gold and blue sequins sewn on.

Crochet the Butterflies By Themselves
If you don’t want to crochet the shawl, the crocheted butterflies would great on their own or be a cute addition to any special project.
