Art Nouveau Style
Wikipedia describes Art Nouveau as an international style of art, architecture and applied art, especially decorative. This type of design was popular from 1890-1910.
The designs were often inspired by natural forms such as the curves of plants and flowers. In the early 1920’s it was taken over by art deco and then modernism.
The differences between them are quite contrasting. Art Nouveau features curving lines and organic forms. While Art Deco has an industrial look and is full of sharp edges.
DMC Pattern Booklet
These charts from a DMC pattern booklet by Thérèse de Dillmont show perfectly the flowing, curving lines of an art nouveau design.
When you click on the charts, they will be large. But when you choose print from your computer screen, and set the layout to landscape, the design will fit the page.
Also if you click on the image, then “save image as”, it will save in a size to fit an 8 x 10 inch page.
DMC Free Patterns
The DMC website has free patterns for cross stitch. With a page dedicated to Thérèse de Dillmont designs. They require an email for the free download, but it’s worth it.
