Welcome to this Friday’s VTNS (Vintage Textile and Needlework Sellers) Fan Freebie!

Lacy Knitted Striped Afghan Pattern - Vintage Crafts and More
Today’s free pattern is a Lacy Knitted Striped Afghan perfect for a summer time afternoon nap.

It measures 54 x 66 inches and uses Dawn Sayelle acrylic yarn, discontinued but Red Heart Super Saver Economy Yarn is a good substitute and it comes in lots of colors.

The Dawn Sayelle yarn came in 4 ounce skeins that totaled 258 yards so you’d need about 8 skeins of one color and about 7 skeins of the other in the Red Heart Super Saver yarn which is 7 ounces and 364 yards per skein.

Another good substitute yarn is Spinrite Caron One Pound. It’s a weight category of 4 and 100% Acrylic similar to the Dawn Sayelle. You’d need less skeins of this yarn since it comes in 16 ounce skeins and has a length of 453 yards.

The pattern afghan is made with Light Jade and Turquoise colors. Straight knitting needles size #11 are used with a Gauge of 16-stitch strip measures 5 inches.

This handsome afghan is fascinating to knit in two of your favorite colors, or the two given in directions. You’ll find that this “Show-Piece” serves a practical purpose, too — an extra cover when unexpected guests stay over nite, as well as a coverlet when taking “forty-winks”.

This is a mail order pattern you’d send a way for, usually for sale in a newspaper or magazine. There is no date or company name on the pattern. It is folded into thirds so in order to scan the whole thing I had to make it several pages. The pattern also includes photographs of the stitches.
