Golf Mitts

I haven’t forgotten Father’s Day is right around the corner. So today’s freebie pattern is knitted Golf Club Cover Mitts.

Golf Club Cover Mitts Knitting Pattern

These mitts for golf clubs are in a book of Men’s Classics by Bear Brand – Bucilla – Fleisher – Botany yarns Vol. 96. It’s a 1966 pattern book that boasts a New Choose-O-Matic which helps you choose the style – the weight and the yarn for your project.

There were several available on Amazon at the time of this writing.

Choose-o-Matic

The Choose-o-Matic selector not only helps in the choice of yarns of various weights, but it’s especially good for finding the right yarn substitute for vintage patterns. It gives specific types of yarn and their weight.

Since these are vintage yarns, you can sometimes find them for sale online, you need to make the correct substitution for your project.

I’ve also added it to the Discontinued Yarns page on this blog.

Bear Brand Win-Knit Yarn

The pattern uses Bear Brand’s Win-Knit yarn twin-paks. This yarn is 100% Acrylic, 4-ply knitting worsted weight and comes in a twin-pak of 2 ounces and approximately 140 yards each. For a total of 4 ounces and 280 yards.

The chart above lists it as a Group No. 3 Heavy weight but everything I’ve researched about it says it’s a Medium weight yarn.

The pattern uses the stockinette knitting stitch. I’ve discussed this stitch more than once on the blog. A post with a pattern for a baby sunsuit explains it. And the WikiHow website has a picture tutorial on it, How to Knit Stockinette Stitch.

There is a Helpful Information chart that the pattern refers to on Page 59. It has how to Weave a Stockinette Stitch and Duplicate Stitch Embroidery.
