This is a universal pair of men’s slack socks. No fancy argyle patterns or other designs. The pattern is for sizes 8½ to 12½.

Four Needle Socks

To knit these men’s socks you’ll need one set of #2 and one set of #3 double pointed needles. I’ve never knitted any socks so I thought I’d point you and me in the direction of a couple good tutorials.

The first one is How to Knit Socks with 4 Needles on the Countryside website. It’s a step-by-step guide to follow.

Next, the Canadian Living website has a Basic Sock Pattern You’ll Knit Again and Again. These also use four needles.

Do a search on the internet for “four needle knitting pattern socks” and a whole lot of information will be right at your fingertips.

Yarn for Socks

The title of this pattern says they’re for men, but I don’t see any reason women couldn’t wear these as well. They have a nice cuff at the top to hold them up.

The pattern calls for 2 ounces of 3-ply sock yarn. Let’s take a look at some choices.

Patons Kroy Socks Yarn

First of all, there is Patons Kroy Socks Yarn which has a large variety of colors, solid and variegated. This is a Super Fine gauge yarn made of 75 Washable Wool/25% Nylon.

Another sock yarn is Baby Alpaca, it is so soft and luxurious. The yarn comes in several colors. Many of them are out right now, but there a few really pretty ones left. They come in a set of 3 skeins.

And last, I’d never heard of this yarn, but it’s received rave reviews. It’s called elann Wagga Wagga Sock Yarn premium quality yarn. Great choice of colors. Made of 75% Australian Superwash Wool and 25% Nylon. They are sold in 5 ball bags.
