Welcome to this Friday’s VTNS (Vintage Textile and Needlework Sellers) Fan Freebie!

This filet crochet pattern is for a chair back and arm pieces, but I can see it as lovely set of place mats or a table topper too.

The set is made with Mercerized Crochet Cotton Size 30 and a Steel Crochet Hook No. 10. This Aunt Lydia’s Crochet Cotton Extra Fine Size 30 would work well.

Gauge is 5 sps make 1 inch; 5 rows make 1 inch.

It’s from the same vintage 1954 booklet Smart Chair Sets as this beautiful Reindeer in the Forest filet crochet.

If you’ve never done Filet Crochet check out this post Exploring Filet Crochet. It will point you in the right direction to learn some basics and includes a free starter edge design pattern.

The PDF file is below. It’s two pages and includes the chart and abbreviations.

You’ll find information and links to several websites with tutorials on learning filet crochet on this earlier post, Exploring Filet Crochet.

Also, Heart Strings, a blog by Red Heart Yarns has a very good Ultimate Guide to Filet Crochet.
