Crochet Pattern Shining Star Tablecloth Coats and Clark’s Design of the Month Vintage Leaflet

Tablecloth Crochet Pattern

Today’s pattern freebie is a lovely star crochet pattern for a tablecloth. This is a vintage Coats and Clark’s leaflet for the Design of the Month. It’s called Shining Star and was a free leaflet at the time.

Suggested colors are White, Ecru or Cream. Either J & P Coats or Clark’s Big Ball Mercerized Crochet Cotton in Size 30 is used to make this pretty cloth. You’ll need a lot of cotton for this 62 x 83 inch tablecloth. Of course, you could make it smaller as a table runner or dresser scarf.

Two Square Motifs

You’ll see that each motif is 4½ inches square. There are crochet instructions for two motifs and an edging. To make the full tablecloth you need 14 rows of 19 motifs.

This crochet pattern is ambitious, but so worth the trouble when finished. I think I’d have to go with a table runner or smaller table cloth. Has anyone seen a vintage crocheted tablecloth in this pattern?

Thank you for sharing this wonderful pattern. I was wondering how does it have 2 motifs, all I can see is a square motif joined in the corners and repeated + edging.

My goodness you are exactly right. The only thing I can figure out is the second motif is actually the corner designs in between the stars. Maybe?

thank you for the wonderful pattern. But I was wondering why is it composed of 2 motifs? All I can see is 1 square motif repeated and joined in the corners and an edging.

I’ve searched around to learn more about Coat’s and Clarks ‘Design of the Month patterns, to no avail. It would be interesting to know what years the patterns were offered and how many there were.

Yes I don’t know much about them myself. I have quite a collection of vintage patterns and this is the only Coat’s and Clarks pattern of the month I’ve come across.
